Proenza Schouler Fall 2013- New York Fashion Week

Proenza Schouler's Fall 2013 collection took a highly unexpected turn this year. I was actually rather... bored with the collection. I expected something a lot more upbeat, fascinating and unusual but I suppose Proenza Schouler took a more realistic, wearable approach to their designs.

The colour palette was certainly a lot more muted and dull with blacks, whites and greys being at the forefront. However, there were creative shapes and styles, they just weren't as "controversial" as seen previously.

I do like the use of the white, it's hit everywhere and anywhere this season. It's such a complimentary shade to suit everyone so props to Schouler for that.

Grey envelope coat with white trousers. Black patent clutch is a nice finish.

Black satin with leather. I do like the combination of materials and the loose fit of the trousers is expected  as it's unconventional.

If anything, this is probably my favourite look of the collection. Clean and polished. Love the white pea coat and tight pencil skirt with black heels and clutch. Wearable, yet unique.

All white top and dress. Monochrome trend is huge here. In a subtle way, you can see the outline of a black vest through the top and the shoes/clutch have black details too.

Marchesa Fall 2013- New York Fashion Week

Marchesa- elegant, detailed and refined. With a similar vibe to Oscar de la Renta with the sheer amount of work in the draping, embroidery and embellishments, I believe this could be the best Marchesa collection yet.

Lots of black, red, sparkles and brocade were seen this season. Pleasantly unsurprising.

What I found particularly special was the unique transparent mesh panels teamed with the richer fabrics like silk and satin. Peter pan collars also seemed to make a comeback... yay!

In terms of the hair and makeup, simplicity was key. So far we've seen a lot of bold, red lips and voluminous hair, i.e. Diane Von Furstenberg's disco vibe. Marchesa opted for a more masculine hair and beauty combination with slicked back, short hair with "barely-there" makeup. The details were in the dresses and nothing else, as expected.

I can see so many of these creations on award show red carpets already. Altogether, the collection looked like high-scale couture, not RTW but what can I say, Marchesa can pull it off.

The show was dramatic, to say the least. Less detail in the backgrounds and other details (shoes etc.). All the focus was on the model and only her.

Huge amounts of detail on the sides of this long, black gown. Airy chiffon sleeves with tight cuffs at the bottom and a peter pan collar add the unexpected surprise to this otherwise, conventionally elegant dress.

Brocade at its best. Plum red velvet teamed with gorgeous lace up heels. Love the tight fit at the top which graduates to a more flowing fit at the skirt.
Similar to the first look with the airy chiffon sleeves, this bright red, floral, tight-fit dress is a winner.  This dress is so intricately fitted and tightened at the right places to define and highlight the feminine figure.

Love this simple off-the-shoulder gown with jewelled details on the middle and on the sleeve cuffs. The draping makes this dress.

Rich, magenta ballgown wrapped perfectly around the bodice. The fabric is unbeatable.

Again, the airy chiffon sleeves add demureness to the inner corset which leads to a longer black, shiny skirt. Love the black and gold combination.
The sweetheart neckline is everywhere for Fall 2013 and it works beautifully with this dress. Best dress of the collection with the tight corset and flowing trail.

Vera Wang Fall 2013- New York Fashion Week

Ah, Vera Wang. The designer who always knows how to bring femininity, elegance, class and sophistication to her collections. Her Fall 2013 collection was wonderful in so many ways. I predict it'll be my favourite of New York Fashion Week but there's still a few more to see.

I loved the bold red lips and sleek, glossy hair. This was high-fashion at its peak. Lots of black and sparkly embroidery. Fur and satin. Chiffon and peplums. All stunningly polished evening looks.

Black satin peplum dress with a split hem. Loosely fitted material cinched in at the waist to add definition. High glam without embellishments, it's all in the fabric.

This picture doesn't do the outfit justice. Love this box fitted 3/4 length top entwined  with glittering threads.

Peplum, sequins and sheerness all in one. Really nice transition from the simple bodice to the tiny sequinned skirt covered up with the sheer chiffon attached to it. All black is certainly going to be seen a lot this Fall.

Very mod chic. Glitter bodycon dress with a black fur cape and look at the length of those gloves!

Wang started to steer her collection towards the florals at one point with this puffball , metallic skirt. Again, the long length gloves are seen in a silver dipping into the pockets of the dress/skirt.

Loved this look. Shimmer on shimmer. Purple and black is such a gorgeous combination if done correctly and Wang has perfected it here. Fit of the dress appears as though there is a bolero jacket covering a purple underlay. Those black patent shoes are also a win.

MM6 Maison Martin Margiela Fall 2013- New York Fashion Week

After a manic period of time trying to view a working live stream of Margiela's Fall 2013 presentation, I found that the collection lived up to its usual high standards.

Almost more spectacular than the clothes were the visuals, I felt. The backdrop and the projections on the walls were quite psychedelic and enrapturing, changing to accompany the looks presented.

Overall, the collection seemed dark and futuristic with full smoky eyes and "tangled", scrunched hair.

Side-zipped biker coats appear to be on-trend for Fall 2013. In a bright red, I like the fit of this coat. The hem is varied , another feature of Fall 2013: fringed & creative hems.

Shearling jacket with a leather trim. Cute black satin shorts paired with sequinned leggings- taking the black satin we've seen across NYFW and adding a twist.

Powder blue satin blouse with a distressed, open grey cardigan.

Love, love, love this intricate design. The lace is seriously beautiful with minute details and the red panels on the bottom sleeve is a gorgeous way to add a pop of colour.

Oversized shearling coat with black panels. Teamed with a nude, matte blouse and miniskirt. Very Margiela-like to layer like this.

Grammy Awards 2013 Best Dressed

For me, the 55th Annual Grammy Awards this year were exciting... mainly because of the red carpet looks, of course. Divided opinions flew across Twitter and blogs but regardless, I felt that I was liking the majority of the outfits I saw. This year, a few singers really shocked me, cough Janelle Monae and Kelly Rowland, as to how elegantly they dressed. I mean I know this is The Grammys but... wow.

Hands down, my favourite look of the night came from the gorgeous Rihanna who looked slimmer than ever in a Azzedine Alaia dress. The scarlet red matched her bold lips. Props to whoever styled her hair too, I love it long and luscious! We're seeing something fairly new from Rihanna. She looks sophisticated and "older" than some of her previous Grammy looks. Definitely agreeable.
Beyonce looked simple and classy in an Osman monochrome jumpsuit. This is bang on trend but I do agree that for The Grammys, maybe a dress would've been more suitable. I can't disagree with this outfit though, she rocked it.
Adele looked cute and very Mary Poppins in her custom Valentino couture gown which was modified to be shorter than the original catwalk length. I'm not 100% sure about this dress. She looks cute and I'm glad she steered away from black but it may not have flattered her in the best way.
Jennifer Lopez looks radiant and sexy in a black Anthony Vaccarello gown. She worked this Angelina Jolie-inspired look with confidence. Not many people can pull this off but her killer thighs made it possible.
Katy Perry looking chic and curvacious in a Gucci S/S 2013 dress. Love the tight fit on the bodice and the  eye-popping cleavage. The sea green was worn by no other. Her hair looks beautiful too in jet black.

Kelly Rowland blew me away with this Georges Chakra black gown. I''m not too sure about the hair but the dress is flawless. Love the cutout detailing. It's sexy but demure enough for the Grammys. Her figure looks fantastic as the cutouts highlight her curves.
Janelle Monae looks sharp and sassy with this Black tuexdo. The gold details on the blazer add so much elegance and richness to the look.
In a J. Mendel S/S 2013 gown in pristine white, Taylor Swift looked angelic as ever. Loved the  T bar detail  on the neck and the draping of the fabric towards the torso.

DVF Fall 2013- New York Fashion Week

Diane von Furstenberg presented a colourful, fun and flirtacious Fall 2013 collection. I almost mistook it for a S/S collection. As it was a DVF show, I predicted lots of red and pinks and that's exactly what we got with a few other bold colours along the way.

There was definitely a disco vibe throughout the show. It was upbeat and lively. The models' hair and makeup was stunning. Loved the bouncy, voluminous hair and red lips. Very feminine and glamorous.

"Anna Wintour was smiling so it had to be good" - now this made me giggle.

Also loved that Diane took her time to receive her applause at the end. That woman deserves every last clap. Brilliant designer.

Black fur jacket, leopard print and a leather skirt. Seems quite 90s.

Tan midi wrap dress with a side belt. Love the cute leopard print clutch.

Love this coral v-neck dress with the triangular detail and open slit.

Fur and double metallics. Disco x 100.
Adore this double-satin suit in a rich, fuschia colour. Wish the shirt would've been black or white though.
Open and airy chiffon dress in a gorgeous deep shade of blue. Love the hippy-style belt.

Burgundy velvet. Who would've thought it?

Aqua dress with distressed satin. Halter is stunning, love every bit of this dress. New take on the ever-so-present satin too. Props to DVF!

Alexander Wang Fall 2013- New York Fashion Week

Wang delivered his usual aesthetic with this collection. Lots of monochrome, grey, black, white, masculine shapes and a "moody" atmosphere.

The multi-platform runway with stairs killed it though. The finale was brilliant and the opening of the soundtrack ("Eye of the Tiger") proved that Wang is ready to tackle Balenciaga and rise above the challenges in his way, which I cannot wait to see, by the way.

Nice to see A$AP Rocky in the front row after his campaign with Wang last year.

Loved the fiery ponytails, not sure about them tucked under the knitted caps though.

The focus was primarily on outerwear and the collection was really designed for its purpose: Fall/Winter. A lot of the other collections have been good but not realistically Fall wear. Wang knows how to deliver for his clients, providing uniquely convenient pieces with creative flare.

Long fur mittens with a grey knitted snood dress. The snood is a nice idea, not sure if it'll fly off the shelves though.

Like this rust-coloured jacket with the criss-cross detail over the size zipper.

Lovely black pea coat with a zipped black leather skirt. Simple and clean.

Love the broad-shouldered, oversized jumper with a glitter stitched skirt.

Black on black. Metallic top with satin-finish trousers. Love those shoes!

Beautiful tailoring. Black satin is huge, it seems. Cut-out shoulders are gorgeous.

Origami-inspired jacket. Really refined with the crisp shoulders and collar.
